DAY ONE - NOMINATION PAPERS SUBMITTED

It is official!

After a long and serious deliberation, I have decided to walk the talk and offer myself for public office.

My nomination paper as a candidate for the Newfoundland and Labrador’s English School District (NLESD) has been submitted.

Trustees are responsible for setting the school board’s overall policy direction and the board’s budget. They are supposed to represent the interests of the community, parents and students in the area from which they are elected to serve.

With the amalgamation of all local and regional English school boards into one provincial board, I am concerned about the impact that individual trustees can have. It is more important than ever to elect independent minded individuals that are not afraid to stir the pot.

I am running in Zone 16 which takes in much of the North East Avalon including Flat Rock, Pouch Cove, Outer Cove, Torbay, Logy Bay, Middle Cove, Signal Hill, Quidi Vidi and St. John's East. With 7,500 students in this Zone 16, I am anticipating a competitive race.

There are 15  schools located in Zone 16, including:

Bishop Feild Elementary

Brother Rice Junior High

Cape St. Francis Elementary

Gonzaga Regional High

Holy Heart of Mary High

Holy Trinity Elementary

Holy Trinity High

Macdonald Drive Elementary

Macdonald Drive Junior High

Mary Queen of Peace Elementary
Roncalli Elementary

Rennies River Elementary

St. Francis of Assisi Elementary

St. Paul's Junior High

Vanier Elementary

Virginia Park Elementary

It has been my privilege over the past 16 years, to have volunteered as a school council member, and school council chair at both Virginia Park Elementary and St. Paul's Junior High School.

In addition, I have been elected to several positions with the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of School Councils.

I will be running on my record as a passionate advocate for education.

I certainly am interested in your perspective. Please feel free to contact me to discuss educational issues or volunteer to help my campaign.
